COP28 UAE

With a long history of supporting clients’ initiatives in embracing sustainability, Katch has always cared about creating a positive impact, and with COP28 soon upon us, now is the time to look forward to an even greener future

The upcoming COP28, a world-renowned climate-focused conference with its 28th version to be held this month, is now the highlight of every conversation relating to the environment. Taking place in the UAE for the first time, COP28 is another indication of the country's significant role in tackling climate change locally and globally. At Katch International, we’ve always tried to be at the forefront of the region’s transformation towards sustainability, supporting our clients’ campaigns to foster a greener future, and working to be more eco-friendly in-house.

COP28 UAE: Another Step Towards a Greener Earth

The 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference, or Conference of the Parties (COP28), will be hosted between November 30th and December 12th in Dubai, the UAE. It’s one of the most significant conferences, taking place almost annually since 1995, and discusses the world’s most pressing issue: climate change. Gathering some of the world’s top leaders, scientists, and other stakeholders, COP28 is where the major decisions about climate change are formulated.

Located in a place where heat is extreme and water is precious, the UAE has long viewed climate change as a challenge that must be overcome. With its hosting of COP28 this year, the country is once again renewing its commitment to help create a greener future, cut carbon emissions, and support environmental efforts. COP28 is not only a gathering of the world’s leaders but also a movement that is encouraging other companies in the UAE to embrace greener policies and be more eco-friendly.

Katch’s Approach Towards Sustainability

In its essence and core values, Katch always cares about creating a more positive impact with everything it does, not only with clients but also in-house. We believe in the importance of fighting climate change in every possible way, and we try to do our part and be an example and inspiration for others and for our own team. Our in-house efforts include working to eliminate plastic waste completely by switching to glass containers and cutting out paper consumption in operations, aiming to be fully digitised in the future.

Our contribution is also rooted in helping our clients throughout various industries, from hospitality and real estate to F&B. Working with some of the most influential businesses who share our values, we’ve been a part of this remarkable transformation toward caring more for the environment, which is having a tremendous impact on the planet.

Fostering Sustainability Efforts with our Clients

Operating from Dubai and London for over 13 years, we’ve been lucky enough to work hand-in-hand with a set of prestigious clients to support their green efforts. Some of the remarkable campaigns we’ve worked on include Rove Hotels’ introduction of Winnow technology to reduce food waste by 40%, with 100% of food waste composted, its efforts to plant 28,000 trees leading up to COP28, its collaboration with Extreme Hangout at the COP28 Green Zone, and its participation in the Green Key Initiative that supports sustainable practices in the tourism industry.

We were also involved in a whole host of The H Dubai’s environmental initiatives, including their successful investment in biodigesters, which reduced their carbon emissions by 3.9 tonnes in two months and led them to receive the prestigious Green Key Certification. Our years of collaborating with many of Address Hotels & Resorts’ properties have also yielded successful campaigns, including multiple sustainability initiatives like utilising recyclable amenities, reducing the use of plastic, and using locally sourced organic products, amongst many others.

In Abu Dhabi, we’ve also helped the renowned W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island get coverage for their zero waste dinner titled “Looped In”. Moving to London, we’ve been working recently with Berkeley Group, a renowned home builder, helping them communicate their global efforts to embrace ESG practices in every sector of their business. Our global impact in collaboration with clients is also extending beyond the UAE and UK, reaching Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and even the Maldives.

With COP28 kicking off in less than two weeks, we can’t wait to see what it will bring this year, as the most influential personalities from around the map will gather to find new solutions and help keep our planet greener. At Katch, we will continue our in-house initiatives and collaborations with like-minded clients, expanding our efforts to help preserve the planet and pave the way for a better future.
