With seven months to go until ‘The World’s Greatest Show’, Team Katch is already counting down to Expo 2020.

In October, Dubai will welcome the world to Expo 2020! We look at three amazing things to look forward to at the highly anticipated event, below:

An Event for the Ages

Dubai Expo 2020 Wayfinding

A whopping 192 countries are set to participate in this truly monumental event. The largest event ever staged in the MEASA region – Expo 2020 will kick off on 20th of October and run for six months, until 10th of April 2021. Expo’s jam-packed schedule will include over 15 hours of entertainment, more than 200 F&B concepts and 60 live shows daily. From arts, culture and architecture, to international cuisine, entertainment and education, the World’s Greatest Show is certainly going to live up to the hype.

Participating nations will bring a host of unique pavilions to Expo 2020. Each pavilion will subsequently belong to one of the following three sub-themes: Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability. In addition to live entertainment and interactive exhibitions, the pavilions will feature everything from fashion shows and cultural showcases to extreme sports demonstrations, mindfulness workshops, and much more. Unsurprisingly, the UAE pavilion will be the focal point of the Expo site.

Innovation at Every Turn

Inspired by its main theme of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, Expo 2020 will be an epicentre of innovation. Visitors to the US Pavilion will be able to experience what it feels like to travel in a hyperloop thanks to Virgin Hyperloop One pods that simulate the futuristic form of transport. But that’s just a taste of the fascinating inventions on offer. The latest 3D printing technology will also be showcased, along with Siemens’ open Internet of Things operating system: MindSphere.

Moreover, groundbreaking architectural innovation will be on display at Expo 2020, including the Al Wasl Plaza. Known as the heart of Expo 2020, the 360° dome is already lauded as the ‘crown jewel’ of the site. The Al Wasl Plaza, which is the connection point for the three main Expo zones (Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability) will feature the world’s largest 360° projection screen. Additionally, the Opportunity Pavilion will epitomise architectural sustainability. The captivating structure comprises all-natural materials, including 2,500 tonnes of stone and 111km of rope.

A Hub for the Future

The World’s Greatest Show will usher in a new era of digital connectivity, as it turns ‘digital possibilities into reality’. Accordingly, Expo 2020 will be a fully 5G-enabled smart site that utilises ultramodern technology, through its partnership with Etisalat. As a result, up to 300,000 visitors each day will enjoy connection speeds 20 times faster than 4G. Consequently, the Expo will undoubtedly be one of the “fastest, smartest and best connected places in the world”.

But that’s not all! Organisers are making sure the legacy of Expo 2020 lasts long past April 2021. 80% of the Expo site’s physical and digital infrastructure will make up District 2020 after the conclusion of the event. District 2020 will be a smart and sustainable urban community that integrates residential, retail, business, education, and hospitality elements, to stimulate a new period of growth for Dubai.
